Our history
The story of our history is a story of an incredible mission pioneering work. It started with one person, Sanna Smidt Hammer and she continued to lead it for 21 years. As part of the international body of Youth With A Mission, and being a direct part of The Ywam North European Council we started the prep work in January 2000.
“In July 2001 we had our first youth camp, with 78 young people from 11 different nations. We camped out at a school close to the center of our capital city, Tórshavn. For 10 days we prepared to go out into the streets of Tórshavn to share the good news of Jesus, and God indeed manifested His power! After we had been in Tórshavn we split the group into 3 teams and sent them out to Austria, France and Serbia.
Our first DTS was in 2002 and that’s when the whole process of how God led us to the house we purchased for a base. How God gave us the faroese translation of Youth With A Mission was a miracle and an honor to the faroese language. “Ung í Trúarverki”. Confirmed by the language professor we had added a new word to our language! “Trúarveki”
God’s heart and mission has been confirmed in the Faroe Islands to be continued!”

In January 2021 Sanna passed her torch to Maria and Abraham Dalslíð who are the leaders of YWAM Faroe Islands now.
Meet the national leaders
Maria and Abraham Dalslíð
Maria and Abraham did their DTS in 2019 in Grimerud, Norway. They staffed in Grimerud for another two years and then moved back to the Faroe Islands to work with YWAM there. They have been leading YWAM Faroe Islands since January 2022.
Together, they have 4 children. Sunrid 13, Símun Boas 6, Bjørt 4 and Josva 1.
Jan Torland
Jan did his DTS in 1992 in Borgen in the north of Norway and has been part of YWAM since then. He is a pioneer who loves the nations and Faroe Islands! He travels the world equipping young leaders and teaching the Word of God together with his wife Kristen.
Jan and Kristen have together 4 children.
Ulrik Corneliussen
Ulrik did his DTS in 1993 in Denmark and has been a staff member with YWAM since then. In 2013 Ulrik and his wife Nubia came to Denmark and have since then been the base leaders and the national leaders in YWAM Denmark.
Ulrik is from Denmark and is married to Nubia who is from Brazil. They have 3 children, all born in Brazil, where they served with YWAM for 18 years working with street children.
Meet the staff
Hansa Frederiksberg
Hansa did her DTS in 2018 in Las Vegas, USA and was on staff there from 2019 until 2022. Between there she has taken a BCC in Lausanne, Switzerland. In August 2022 she joined us here on the Islands as a full time staff.
Hansa is passionate about seeing young people meeting God and truly seeing who He is and who He has created them to be.
